Adesto SoC supports protocols to help smart building IoT designs

Adesto Technologies announced that its FT 6050 Smart Transceiver has been updated to natively support several protocol stacks.

The FT 6050 SoC now allows the LON and BACnet industrial protocols to communicate simultaneously over the Free Topology channel. The native support is provided to the LON, LON/IP, BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP protocols.

Providing simultaneous communication gives engineers more flexibility in the way automation systems in smart buildings are architected. They can mix devices and apps from different vendors and get instant, decentralized peer-to-peer communication for office and room controls, HVAC and energy management, security and access control, elevator controls and even transportation systems such as trains, Adesto said.

The FT 6050 is an open system to allow BACnet workstations and LON network manager and integrator tools to be used to field-configure, provision and monitor controllers as either LON or BACnet devices or both.

“Our customers want scalable, interoperable and extensible systems that are extremely simple to install, and they want a uniform management architecture that can share data across networks and also externally to cloud systems,” said Apurba Pradhan, vice president of product management for Adesto. “By combining LON and BACnet, two widely deployed open protocols in industrial IoT, we are giving them exactly that.”

Adesto cited control automation provider ISDE as a customer. Overall, Adesto has 5,000 customers for its application-specific semiconductors and embedded systems for IoT.

The FT 6050 is available now, but pricing was not disclosed.
