HPE Big Data VP On BlueData Deal, Dell EMC And The ‘Huge’ AI Opportunity

A ‘Huge’ Opportunity For Channel Partners

Patrick Osborne, vice president and general manager of HPE’s Big Data and Secondary Storage business, says the acquisition of BlueData translates into a “huge” opportunity for channel partners delivering artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics solutions.

“For the channel partners, I think this is huge,” said Osborne, who heads up one of the fastest-growing businesses for HPE. “What we are starting to see is an increasing number of larger enterprise customers certainly adopting these techniques and applications: big data analytics, fast data, AI [artificial intelligence] and ML [machine learning] to effect their digital transformation.”

Osborne’s comments came after HPE Tuesday announced plans to acquire Santa Clara, Calif. based BlueData, the maker of a software platform that leverages Docker container technology to make it simpler and more cost-effective to deploy large-scale machine-learning and big data analytics applications.

The acquisition opens the door for HPE partners to not only provide big data infrastructure but the intelligent software management layer for next-generation, artificial intelligence and machine-learning applications.

“This is a big win for us and our channel partners, who can now provide not only the infrastructure but this really intelligent software layer that manages these applications,” he said. “We have got some big plans for this software acquisition. It’s a great team [at BlueData] so we’re really happy to have them be part of the [HPE] family.”
